Most people think about wearing sunglasses when the sun is shining – usually during the summer months or if they are heading off on a sunshine vacation to a tropical location. However, it is recommended that sunglasses be worn throughout the year to protect the eyes from harmful UV rays, which are present even on cloudy, dull days.

Retailers will be increasing their orders to keep up with demand. But is the summer the best time for consumers to look for sunglasses?

As with all products, the prices of sunglasses increase and decrease with supply and demand, and as we have already mentioned, the demand for shades increases dramatically during the summer months. Whether people are replacing a broken pair of sunglasses or simply want a new pair to keep up with the latest fashion trends, the cost of shades is unsurprisingly higher at this time of the year.

Discount chains, for example, will have larger budgets than independent retailers and so will be able to pass on discounted prices to their customers. 

If you are looking for a great pair of sunglasses, it might be worth taking some time to shop around. Spending an hour online will mean you have greater chance of getting the best prices. This is particularly so if you are searching for designer shades, which can be quite expensive. 

Picking the Perfect Pair

The most important thing to consider when buying sunglasses is that they provide the ultimate in eye protection. Look for a pair that offer ‘100 percent UV protection’ or ‘UV400 protection’. 

Lens color is down to personal preference and does not provide levels of protection. It does, however, affect how you see because some colors provide greater contrast. Moreover, bigger lenses will provide greater protection, covering more of the face but they are not for everyone. Those with small faces and features might appear swamped by large lenses. 

At the end of the day, the perfect pair is the pair you feel most comfortable in.
