Tips for Jewellery Collectors

3 min read

There are people all over the world who collect jewellery. It is something that you don’t associate with collectors because you just assume that they collect something like stamps.

However, jewellery collecting is quite popular and a lot of people collect it. There is probably someone in your family who collects jewellery and you won’t even know it.

If you are interested in collecting jewellery then read on for some tips on how to get started and any equipment that you might need.

1. Which jewellery? – You will need to find a niche to start collecting in. If you collect every single piece of jewellery that you come across, then you are going to end up with a massive collection and very little money. You could collect a certain brand, colour or even a type of jewellery. This could be rings, bracelets, necklaces or any other item that is considered to be jewellery. Some people with the best collections have concentrated on certain colours. Purple is popular colour for collections, but it can be any colour that you want.

2. Storage – Once you have bought a few pieces, you are going to need somewhere to store them. You won’t want them just lying around the house because the items will get dusty and they might get damaged. Therefore, you should have somewhere to put the items when you are not wearing them. This could be a jewellery box, or a travel box. It could even be a storage box where you put the items even when they are still in the original box. Anything will work as long as they aren’t left laying around the house.

3. Organisation – If you just put the items in storage boxes, then you are going to need to have some organization otherwise you won’t remember which item is in which box. You could organize in a way that all the boxes with certain items in, are on certain sides of the container. Or you could have labels on all the boxes, or you could take a picture of each item and attach that to the front of each box. If you know where all your items are then you will wear them more often. If you don’t know where they are then you might forget that you even have the items you have bought and then you might end up with duplicates.

4. Travelling – If you travel a lot and you want to take some of the items in your collection with you, then you will need some sort of travel bag for the items. The perfect bag will have different sections for different items so that they don’t get mixed up or tangled. If you have necklaces and they get tangled then they might get damaged or they might snap. So, you will need a bag that is specifically made for jewellery. You can’t just use any old bag.

5. Which store? – Once you have bought a few pieces, you will probably want to have a favourite store. They will know what pieces you like and they will keep certain items for you because they will know what items you will like. You should pick a store that has a website so you can look at the items before you get to the store, or you can order online and then have cheap shipping. If they specialize in the brand that you like, then they should offer you some discount because you are a loyal customer.
